Pioneer laughs at Blu Ray storage - 400Gb on the way

From jolt.co.uk:

In the beginning, God created DVD. Then, a few years later, God's good friends Sony and Toshiba decreed that DVD was no longer big enough for ever more demanding consumers, so both companies set about superseding the format.

In the great battle of Sony's Blu-ray versus Toshiba's HD-DVD (I think it took place in Hastings), Toshiba ran off with an arrow in its eye, leaving Blu-ray the victor. But all is still not calm.

Rumblings from inside the Blu-ray fraternity - namely at Pioneer - have suggested that Sony's mighty format may already be too small, with Pioneer creating a new 16-layer 400GB Blu-ray disc.

As reported by The Register, the new discs will be able to take multiple seasons of TV series on just one disc, and should be compatible with "Blu-ray spec" and "the optical specifications of the lens", meaning we shouldn't have to switch formats again.

Thank the lord for that.

    Wow...that's just...unnecessary lol

I suppose it could put a massive variety into games, though, if they were compatible with the PS3 - there could be thousands more skins and lots more vehicles, voices. etc. Everything could jsut be a lot more open.
