Ubisoft to launch online gaming accounts
Ubisoft's PC releases are about to be subjected to different anti-piracy measures, shifting away from StarForce DRM software to an online system similar to Valve's Steam platform.
Unlike Steam which makes downloaded games available when off line, Ubisoft will require you to be connected to the internet every time you want to play one of their titles.
While the new system allows for infinite installations of Ubisoft titles, save games and other important information will be kept on an Ubisoft server.
An internet connection is fast becoming de riguer for PC gamers, with most titles embracing current DRM technologies that restrict the amount of times a game can be simultaneously installed on different machines.
Ubisoft's new authentication system is currently making its debut with the release of the Settlers 7 beta.

Eh, I think that's going a bit too far to be honest. Activision had the balls to release Modern Warfare 2 as a Steam only game on PC, and I'm just taking a wild guess that they might've known it would be a very popular game to pirate. In my opinion, Ubisoft need to harden up a little and accept that there is no way that piracy will ever be completely gotten rid of - Steam is one of the best ideas in a long time when it comes to piracy. While, it may not be airtight, uniting lots of developers under the same flag against piracy has helped a lot. The more they get behind Valve, the better things are going to go.
